Assistant Director of Pre-Professional Advising, Jaime Sperandio, is PREPs' full-time pre-professional advisor. Jaime works with pre-professional students in the School of Science regarding both their academic and professional development.  She advises students individually as well as develops and conducts programming in the form of workshops and seminars to meet their needs.  Additionally, she conducts mock interviews and reviews resumes and personal statements. Jaime also teaches courses targeting pre-professional students, including a First Year Seminar/Summer Bridge (SCI-I 120) and Health Professions Shadowing (SCI-I 390).

Courses Taught / Teaching

SCI-I 390: Advanced Topics in Science- Health Professions Shadowing (Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Summer 2018)

  • 1-credit hour experiential learning course for students shadowing healthcare professionals. Students complete 30 hours of shadowing in the field, online discussions with classmates, and a final reflection. Meets the experiential learning (E) standards for the IUPUI RISE initiative. Departmental permission required.

SCI-I 197: Exploring Health Professions (Fall, Spring)

  • 1 credit hour course for students exploring graduate-level health careers. Students gain a wider and deeper understanding of the varoety of healthcare professions and how to most effectively prepare for entry into appropriate programs.

SCI-I 297: Health Professions Shadowing (Fall, Spring, Summer)

  • 1-credit hour experiential learning course for students shadowing healthcare professionals. Students complete 30 hours of shadowing in the field, online discussions with classmates, and a final reflection. Meets the experiential learning (E) standards for the IUPUI RISE initiative.Departmental permission required.

SCI-I 397: Pre-Professional Planning Seminar (Fall, Spring)

  • 1 credit hour course preparing students to apply to graduate-level professional programs (medicine, dental, law, optometry, occupational therapy, optometry, physical therapy, physician assistant, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine).

SCI-I 398: Medical School Preparation (Spring only)

  • 1 credit hour course preparing students to apply to medical school. Includes Kaplan in-person MCAT review course. Application and departmental permission required.
